Overview

ClearID is a background screening service that was developed in 2015. It allows employers to quickly verify the identity of contract workers using a device's camera. This service is designed to speed up the screening process and provide a more efficient solution for employers. ClearID is a semi-responsive embedded application, making it a convenient option for employers who must screen multiple contract workers.
Discovery
Pain Points and Opportunities:
The photo verification process lacks liveness detection and cannot verify the quality of the photo. Moreover, there are no guidelines for the user, such as when their face is away from the camera or the image is cut off. The current system supports only English, which is limiting, and it should at least include Spanish and other languages supported by Sphere, the global applicant system. The customer is required to pay for the process even if the photo does not pass the criteria to verify identity, such as if it is blurred, another size, or has filters applied to it. Additionally, the standard file size for images does not adjust automatically, creating a challenge for users (for example, an image on iOS might be larger than the maximum file size). Lastly, the user does not get a preview of the photos they took before sending them.
Outcome

The goals are to reduce the number of complaints and the cost of failed validations, increase the chances of successful validation, enhance the applicant's experience throughout the process, and reduce support calls. This will be achieved by updating the User Interface to provide a more modern and cohesive look across the product ecosystem. Additionally, a multi-device solution will be implemented to address the need for "responsive design." The front-end framework will be rebuilt in conjunction with the back-end framework to take advantage of modern technology. AI features will be utilized to automate processes wherever possible to minimize errors and improve efficiency. Finally, the backend architecture will be improved.
